A SUMMARY OF THE REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATION

Module 1 - Your role in the programme.
Work with the unit and the unit team to plan and carry out the programme.
1a(i) Take part in Rainbow Chat, Brownie Pow-Wow, Patrol Leaders' Council or Look Wider Team meeting etc, as appropriate.
1a(ii) Use the appropriate decision-making process for the age group to get ideas and suggestions, and to agree with members of the unit how the programme will be carried out.
1a(iii) Take part in Unit team planning meetings.
1a(iv) Use a record of the unit's programme to show your contribution to planning it and carrying it out, and discuss this with your Mentor.
1a(v) Use a style of leadership appropriate to the age group. This should be observed by the Mentor in a unit setting.
1a(vi) Observe how all members of the unit team,especially the Young Leaders and Unit helpers, are involved in planning and carrying out the programme.
1a(vii) Attend a training on the relevant section programme. Provide opportunities for the unit to carry out a range of activities, reflecting balance and variety in the programme.

1b(1) Using a Guide Association or World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) publication, plan and carry out an activity on the international aspect of Guiding.
1b(ii) Plan and carry out an activity which helps the unit to enjoy the out-of-doors. (This activity can be combined with 1b(iii).
1b(iii) Carry out an activity or visit away from the meeting place. (This activity can be combined with 1b(ii).
1b(iv) Help members of the unit participate in an activity with members of another section.
1b(v) Provide opportunities for at least three other activities. 1b(vi) Discuss at least two activities the unit has done with the girls and young women. Use the Five Essentials in the unit's programme over a period of three months.

1c(i) Review the programme on a monthly basis to check that the Five Essentials are being put into practice. If they are not, suggest how this can change. Work with members of the unit to support their progress.

1d(i) Identify two members of the unit and monitor their progress over three months. Note how they relate to other members of the unit, to members of their Six or Patrol (if a Brownie or Guide) and to the Unit team.
1d(ii) Support these two members in planning their progress through the programme.
1d(iii) Help them review at least two activities in which they have taken part.
1d(iv) Help a member of the unit or a small group of girls find out about the section to which she/they can progress. This can be combined with Element 1b(iv).

Module 2- Your role in the Guide Association.
Discuss your understanding of the Promise with an adult member of your choice and make or renew your Guide Promise 2a(i) Discuss your understanding of the Promise with an adult member of your choice. 2a(ii) When you are ready, make or renew your Promise. Attend and contribute to meeting at a local level 2b(i) Attend meetings 2b(ii) Keep a record of the contribution you may have made to these meetings. Work with Guiders, other than those in the unit to plan and participate in an activity. 2c(i) Join in or suggest an activity that will give you an opportunity to work with other Guiders. 2c(ii) Work with other Guiders to plan, organise and carry out the activity. 2c(iii) Afterwards, get together to talk about the activity,its successes or its failures and your contribution to it.

Module 3 - Your role in safety and unit administration.
Ensure effective communication takes place with parents and the local community.
3a(i) Obtain basic information about each member of the unit (for example date of birth,address, emergency contact details). Note where the information is kept and how you can access it.
3a(ii) Keep parents regularly informed about the unit's plans. Obtain any necessary parental consent.
3a(iii) Discuss how you would help a parent with a query and what further action you would take.
3a(iv) Let the local community know about Guiding activities in your area. Ensure that the unit's programme is carried out in a safe environment.

3b(i) Discuss what action you would take when dealing with sensitive issues,particularly those dealt with by the Safe from Harm policy.
3b(ii) Carry out a safety check of the Unit meeting place, inside and out. Discuss what action you would take if you found an unsafe situation. Explain or show how you would carry out a fire drill in your meeting place.
3b(iii) Show that you can run activities safely in the unit meeting place.
3b(iv) Hold a 1st Response certificate, or a first aid certificate that covers the minimum requirements in the Associations 1st Response Syllabus.
3b(v) Know who to report to locally in the event of a serious incident involving members of the unit. Prepare a budget and a basic account sheet for the unit or for a special event.

3c(i) Keep a record of the unit's income and expenditure for two months or for a specific event or project, prepare an estimate of expenses and discuss where the money will come from.
3c(ii) Over the two months or for the project, keep a record on a balance sheet of income and expenditure. Include receipts for items purchased and record where the money is kept.
3c(iii) At the end of the two months or the project balance your records.
3c(iv) Ensure this balance sheet is checked or reviewed.

Module 4 - Your role in managing the Unit (For those taking over as Guider in Charge)
Ensure that effective communication takes place locally
4a(i) Discuss your understanding of how the unit fits into Guiding's communication network.
4a(ii) Show how information is communicated to the members of the unit and the unit team.
4a(iii)Using the information communicate, help the unit participate in a District or similar event. Maintain effective record-keeping systems.

4b(i) Ensure that accurate and up-to-date records are maintained of unit members including the unit team.
4b(ii) Ensure that accurate records of attendance are kept for all members, including members of the unit team.
4b(iii) Ensure that a programme record is maintained.
4b(iv) Ensure that proper financial records kept.
