The Guide Promise

I promise that I will do my best
to love my God,*
to serve the Queen and my country,**
to help other people
and to keep the Guide Law

This is the promise made by every Guide, from whatever section, when she makes or renews her promise. Brownies say “Brownie Guide Law***” and Rangers make the same Promise as other Guides, but also make an undertaking to be of service to the community.**** The Rainbow Promise now includes the actual word "promise" and is "I promise that I will do my best to love my God and to be kind and helpful." *Guides who live in the UK but do not consider it to be their native country may alter the phrase "my country" to "the country in which I live." **There is also much discussion as to the wording for Guides who are atheist or follow a non-theistic or multi-theistic religion. The phrase "Live by my faith" has been suggested as a substitute for "Love my God" but has not yet achieved official recognition.

****There is no "official" wording for the Ranger Promise : the usual format is that the girl says the promise as usual and then either adds something along the lines of "I further undertake to be of service to the wider community" or responds to the question "Do you undertake to be of service to the wider community?"

Guiders make the same promise as Guides but may choose to make the Ranger Promise if they so wish.

The Guide Law

When a Guide, Ranger, Young Leader or adult Leader makes her promise she undertakes to do her best to keep the Guide Law:

	A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.
	A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.
	A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experiences.
	A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides.
	A Guide is polite and considerate.
	A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.
