These ideas are based on the first book only. We're using the"staff " at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for our Guiders, Harry's friends for YLs and Houses for Sixes:

Leaders Names
GiC = Professor Dumbledore (Headteacher)
QM = Professor Snape (Potions)
1st Aider = Madam Pomfrey (Matron)
Others = Pro McGonagall (Assistant Head & Transfiguration) Prof Quirrell (Defense against dark arts) Prof Flitwitch (Charms) Madam Hooch (Quidditch) Hagrid (Caretaker) Peeves (Ghost)
YL's = Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter

Sixes/Patrols = Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin

Place names could be any boarding school-themed title eg
1st Aid Room = Infirmary,
General area = Assembly Hall/Classroom(s)
Kitchen = Potions Lab,
Dining area = Great Banquet Hall,
A dult only areas = Forbidden Forrest, Staff rooms.

For menu suggestions -use your imagination....the more outragous the better! Don't forget to include Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Bott's Every-Flavour Beans (jelly beans to you and me!), Droobles Best Blowing Gum, Liquorice Wands, Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes if you're having a tuckshop/party!

Every new first year requires: 3 sets plain work robes (black) 1 plain pointed hat (black) 1 pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar) 1 winter cloak (black, silver fastenings) 1 wand 1 cauldron (pewter) 1 set glass or chrystal phials 1 telescope 1 set brass scales 1 owl/cat/toad.
These items can be bought in Diagon Alley (The witches & wizards own shopping mall) - basis of treasure hunt......

Journeying to Hogwarts - Depart Platform 9&3/4, Kings Cross Station, London on Hogwarts Express steam train
Transfer across moat to castle by boat (4 per boat).......water challenge perhaps?

Duties - List like school timetable?

Activities -
Making your own uniform - hats from card, cloaks from bin bags, wands from dowelling.
Find entrance letter for Hogwarts
Make House badges - cut up HP wrapping paper (available from WH Smiths) and mount on card/funky foam)
Make model boats/rafts to cross moat
Meet the characters treasure trail
Make model steam train engines from sweets (sorry can't remeber how exactly at moment...) Shop for books etc for school treasure trail
Series of challenges to find Philosopher's stone - 1 chess based, 1 music based, 1 knot/maze based, 1 key and lock based, 1 logic/potions based
Make your own enchanted mirror
Play Quidditch
Make Potions (baking to us mortals)
Make scented owls/cats/toad
Have Inter-House championships
Make toadstools for use in potions (Paint woooden doorknob, stick on card/funky foam)
Gather twigs and bind on longer branch to make broomsticks
Annual Prizegiving
